The First Fifty

Getting your book published is more competitive than ever. Literary agents and acquisition editors have less time to evaluate new submissions, especially from first time authors. As a result, many have developed a shorthand method to facilitate this process.  They look at the first 50 pages of a submission, a brief plot synopsis and one page author bio. If they are not impressed with this material, they will not read further and the material will be rejected.

THE FIRST FIFTY is a way of getting through initial submission hurdle and onto the serious reading pile of agents and editors. Our evaluators have extensive acquisition experience, many with major New York publishing houses, and prominent literary agencies. This is an effective and affordable way for you to get the guidance you need to make your crucial introductory material into a winner.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Andrea this last year and have been extremely satisfied with the assistance I’ve received utilizing her literary management services. Her editing and insight have been invaluable towards improving and fine tuning my story. Andrea provided fresh eyes to see the holes and weak spots I wasn’t able to see on my own. She’s professional and encouraging as well as supportive. I would recommend her services to anyone looking for additional guidance.

I hired Andrea Hurst and Associates to do an evaluative edit on my manuscript. The follow-up meeting (included in the price) was full of exciting ideas, possibilities and valuable suggestions. The expertise and care that Andrea gave this project will help me get my life’s work off my desk and into the public’s hands where it belongs. Thank you!

Steven Keeler, MFT
Memoir Writer

What I thought was a well-written memoir with a compelling story that needed just a quick polish was actually a work-in-progress that needed a lot more work. Thanks to Andrea’s excellent editing skills, objective views with an openess to multicultural perspectives and sharp eye as well as her patience, I now have a revised manuscript I am truly proud of. My work would not have come this far without Andrea’s golden touch.

Working with Andrea has been a wonderful experience. There are a lot of editors who can look at your work for content and make sure it “looks right.” It is rare to find someone who can help capture the heart of your story and help you make it something to be truly proud of.
